Join us online on Saturday, August 23 from 2pm to 4pm for ReVer(b)sions Lab—an interdisciplinary experimental and speculative poetic lab, facilitated by interdisciplinary poet and artist, Sherese Francis.
Ebon Venus and Sable Venus: The Praise Poem
Inspired by Latimer's poem Ebon Venus in dedication to his wife, we will look at the science of beauty, the observer and the observed, and objectivity and objectification, through view of the celestial body Venus, and the myth of Venus in various texts like Robin Coste Lewis' The Voyage of the Sable Venus. We will explore what a praise poem says about both the observer and the observed. Participants will create their own praise poems for a celestial body or comparing a celestial body to another person or object.
